A little over 6 months ago, I had the great fortune of attending a workshop intensive called Making Things Happen (MTH) by Lara Casey, in New York City. My dear friend Sarah, who is the creative mind behind an amazing luxe paper biz, had gone to MTH in Minneapolis and came back raving about it. Since my mind was already well down the path of making a few things happen in my life, I booked a ticket for this one day intensive with Lara, Jeff Holt and guest speaker and photographer Nick Onken.
I had no expectations.
Being there, with 20+ like-minded creative entrepreneurs whom I had never met, I felt totally “home.” I WAS IN MY ELEMENT. It was great to meet Lara and learn how naturally brilliant she is with branding. During our afternoon together, she challenged the group to visualize and clarify what we truly want in this lifetime. We used our MTH journals and put into words what we wanted to “make happen.” We shared with the group and visualized in our own minds our futures and our dreams come to life. We learned how to promote ourselves and that which we knew would someday happen.
What really blew me away that day was how much Lara, Jeff and Nick encouraged us to promote our authenticity in our business and in our branding: the value is in telling our story along the way. That day, I was inspired to be ME. More of Me than I had let out before. I felt proud to name my goals and visions, and all of a sudden it was perfectly ok to promote who I am and what I wanted in my life.
I was inspired and happy as I walked away that evening. I stopped across from a park as I walked back to my hotel, and snapped a few photos and take it all in. It was late March, and the earliest blooms were just appearing on the trees. Nature’s brilliance was just beginning to show with the arrival of spring, symbolizing re-birth, new growth and hope for a new and beautiful season.
As I review my notebook from that day, I see my thoughts, visions and goals clearly stated. What takes me by surprise as I sort through the pages, is that in 6 months time, I have made nearly all of them HAPPEN. The undeniable power of intention “WOW’s” me and I think about my friend Ann Drew Yu who has inspired me with the lifestyle business she has created on the concept: Where Intention Goes, Energy Flows.
Thank You Lara, Jeff, Nick and Ann, and all those who continue to inspire me along the way! I hereby state my intention: to continue MAKING THINGS HAPPEN!
What does Making Things Happen look like for you?
